Herpes Simplex

Though it may sound daunting, herpes simplex is actually an extremely common viral infection that spreads through direct contact. The condition causes small bumps and sores near the infected area that can become itchy and painful. There are two main forms of the virus that affect patients differently. The first, HSV-1, is a non-sexually transmitted form of oral herpes that causes cold sores and fever blisters around the mouth or face. HSV-2 is more commonly known as genital herpes and can affect the genitals, buttocks and anal area. Severity of the symptoms associated with the herpes simplex virus varies from patient to patient, but a visit to a dermatologist is necessary for treatment.
