Psoriasis is a chronic condition that affects the life cycle of skin cells. It tends to occur due to an immune system malfunction in which faulty signals tell skin cells to form too quickly. The body is then unprepared to rid itself of the excess cells and they build up on the surface of the skin. The result is unsightly raised patches on the skin that usually appear as red bumps, coated with a silvery-white scale. Psoriasis is common on the knees, elbows, scalp and lower back and can be extremely uncomfortable both physically and aesthetically.
