About Seborrheic Dermatitis at Jeff Alexander M.D. Dermatology
Seborrheic dermatitis is a long-term, non-contagious skin condition that usually affects the scalp or ears. Sometimes referred to as dandruff, sebhorrheic dermatitis causes the skin to become red and inflamed with a flaky white or yellow scale coating the surface. It is not caused by a lack of proper hygiene and does not affect your overall health, but can be embarrassing and cause unnecessary discomfort. Flare-ups typically occur in the winter months, when the air is cold and dry, though there could be various reasons for an outbreak. With treatment from Dr. Alexander, your seborrheic dermatitis can be kept under control and your scalp will feel some much needed relief.
