Seborrheic dermatitis is a long-term, non-contagious skin condition that usually affects the scalp or ears. Sometimes referred to as dandruff, sebhorrheic dermatitis causes the skin to become red and inflamed with a flaky white or yellow scale coating the surface. It is not caused by a lack of proper hygiene and does not affect your overall health, but can be embarrassing and cause unnecessary discomfort. Flare-ups typically occur in the winter months, when the air is cold and dry, though there could be various reasons for an outbreak.
